Question

My parent became unemployed since we completed the FAFSA. Does this change my financial aid eligibility?

Answer

The federal process allows financial aid administrators to use professional judgment on a case-by-case basis to account for special circumstances.

Unemployment for at least 10 weeks or income reduction (generally 20%) may be considered a special circumstance. See "Special or Extenuating Circumstances" for additional information.
