Workday Change to Requesting Time Off (9/2025)

Summary

The recent Workday release introduced a change to the way time off is requested. It requires manual action to update your Personal Applications. In Workday - Go to Menu > Personal Menu (click Expand) > Click the +Add button > Search Absence then click the + sign to add 'Request Absence' and 'Manage Absence' > Request Absence application is now set to quickly enter without leaving the screen.

There was recently an update to the Absence Application in Workday that requires manual action to update your Personal Applications. As a reminder, entering absences directly from your timesheet only offers a limited selection of absence reasons.

You must follow the directions below to access the full availability of absences reason codes.

1. Log into Workday and click the Menu button to open the side-panel menu. ​​​​​​

2. Scroll down to the Personal menu and click to expand (if needed). If you do not have Request Absence or Manage Absence (formerly Correct Absence), you will need to add them manually.

3. Click the + Add button on the bottom left of your screen to search for applications to add.

4. Search Absence and then click the + plus sign to add both Request Absence and Manage Absence. Depending on your role, you may see additional options but these are the two that you need to add as they are now separate applications.

5. Now, if you go back to your menu screen, these options will not show under the Personal tab.

6. The Request Absence application is application now allows you to quickly enter an absence request without leaving the current screen:

7. IF, however, you prefer the larger format screen that you were used to, you can just use the Manage Absence  application and as you request and correct absences, it will format the task appropriately.
