HPIA Tool for HP laptops

Introduction

HP Image Assistant (HPIA) is a tool developed by HP that helps IT administrators manage and update HP business computers. It analyzes the system and identifies outdated drivers, BIOS versions, firmware, and HP software. The tool then recommends or installs the required updates to improve system stability, performance, and security.

This request introduces the HPIA driver update solution and how it can be used to automatically detect and install the latest drivers and firmware for HP devices.

Instructions

Download HPIA

On a Personal Device

  1. Go to: https://ftp.ext.hp.com/pub/caps-softpaq/cmit/HPIA.html
  2. Click the latest SPxxxxxx SoftPaq package (the number changes over time).
  3. Agree to the download when prompted.

On a State Device

  • Install the HP Image Assistant (HPIA) directly from the Company Portal.

Install & Run HPIA

  1. Once installed, launch the downloaded HPIA executable.
  2. Click yes if the User Account Control box comes up asking if you want to allow this app to make changes to your device.
    • Important: Do not manually launch it twice. The tool auto‑starts after a short delay and a second launch creates duplicate instances.
  3. When HPIA opens, click Analyze to begin the system scan.analyze image screen
  4. After the scan, a summary screen will appear displaying a Fair or Poor status in orange/red.

Apply Recommended Updates

  1. Go to the Recommendations tab.
  2. Select all items except “HP Notifications”.
    • (You may include it, but it only provides nonessential HP promotional alerts.)
  3. Click Download.
  4. In the pop-up, select the Download and Install radio button (the lower option).
  5. Wait for the installation to complete. This may take a while, pending what you're installing. 
  6. When the report indicates all items were successfully installed, restart your device.
