Personal Routers in ResHalls

Question

Can I use a personal router while staying in a ResHall?

Answer

You may use a personal router while in the dorms. Please see the rules below.

  • WiFi must be turned OFF
  • Must be configured in a way that does not interfere or cause problems with services provided by the University.
  • Residents may not tamper with, modify, or extend University network services beyond individual resident rooms.
  • Personal wireless access points, which would in effect extend the network beyond an individual's room and therefore potentially provide wireless connections to others, are prohibited.

Further information may be found on the ResNet acceptable use policy.
