Question
What career or job can I obtain with a BES degree?
Answer
Because the Bachelor of Elective Studies (BES) degree is a "self planned" program, you may wonder how it will be perceived by potential employers. Here are some tips for you!
- Employers are often interested in the skills and expertise you gained while you earned your degree; so having a rock star resume and cover letter are great ways to showcase those skills and "sell" your degree to the hiring committee.
- Networking with people who are working in your chosen field is a great way to get a good grasp on what qualifications hiring committees are looking for. You can also reach out to people who are actively hiring in your field to discuss things such as academic background and the skills they look for in candidates. Don't be afraid to ask questions or use networking sites like LinkedIn to learn more about people in your chosen field.
- We also recommend scheduling a meeting with a career advisor in our Career Center to discuss possible careers with a BES Degree. In a personalized one one one meeting, our advisors can help you define your goals and research careers in your areas of interest.

Additionally, if you plan to continue for a graduate degree in the future, be sure to check into graduate admission requirements as you plan your BES program so that your undergraduate program meets the requirements of your particular institution or program.
