Connecting Echos and HomePods to SCSU HTSecure Network

Introduction

How to connect to WiFi on Amazon Echo and Apple HomePods

 

If you are in a reshall you will need to register your phone to scsugadgets and then connect your homepod to your phone while your phone is on the scsugadgets network. You must also disable Private Wifi under the settings for that wifi ID. 

To register the correct Wi-Fi Address for scsugadgets:

  1. click on the "get info" button of one of the wifi names you are already connected to;
  2. disable "Private Wi-Fi Address"
  3. copy the Wi-Fi address
  4. go to the registration page for scsugadgets and sign in (https://crs.stcloudstate.edu)
  5. use the Wi-Fi address that you copied in the registration process
  6. complete the registration process and use the password sent in the registration email
  7. when connecting to scsugadgets, remember to click on the "get info" button and disable the "Private Wi-Fi Address" setting so that you can properly connect to the network 
  8. setup your homepod or alexa device

How to connect an Echo Show to Wi-Fi:

  1. Say, "Go to settings," or swipe down from the top of the screen and select Settings.
  2. Select Network.
  3. Select HT Secure network and follow the prompts on the screen.

* If you don't see your Wi-Fi network, scroll down to find advanced Wi-Fi options.

How to connect an Echo Dot to Wi-Fi:

  1. Open the Alexa app.
  2. Tap More.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Tap Device Settings.
  5. Tap your Echo Dot.
  6. Swipe up to scroll down if necessary.
  7. In the Status section, tap Wi-Fi Network.
  8. In the Wi-Fi network section, tap Change.
  9. Press and hold the action button on your Echo Dot until the light turns orange.
  10. Tap Continue.
  11. When the Echo Dot light is orange, tap YES.
  12. Open your Phone’s Wi-Fi settings, and select the Wi-Fi network that looks like Amazon-xxx.
  13. Return to the Alexa app, and wait for it to discover your local Wi-Fi networks.
  14. Tap the Wi-Fi network (HT- Secure)  you want your Dot to use.
  15. Wait for the Dot to connect.
  16. Your Echo Dot is now connected to Wi-Fi, tap CONTINUE to finish.

Apple HomePod:

  1. HomePod mini and HomePod automatically connect to the same Wi-Fi network as your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

To check your Wi-Fi signal strength:

  1. Open the Home app.
  2. Touch and hold HomePod.
  3. Scroll down and tap Wi-Fi Address.
  4. The Wi-Fi signal strength is located next to your Wi-Fi name.
