Export Names and Email from D2L Brightspace using the Gradebook

Introduction

How to export student's first name, last name and primary email address from the D2L Brightspace gradebook for use in a GitHub classroom roster.

1. Access the necessary course and navigate to Assessments | Grades.
2. Click the ‘export’ button:
   1. 
3. Ensure ‘export grade items for’ indicates ‘ all users ‘:
   1. 
   2. If it does not indicate ‘all users’, select ‘All users’ and click ‘Apply’.
4. Key field selection does not matter for this use case.
5. Sort by field selection does not matter for this use case.
6. Ensure nothing is checked in the ‘grade values’ area:

7. Checking all three items in the ‘user details’ area is recommended:
   1. 
8. De-select all grade items, as we don’t need them for this purpose.
   1. De-selecting all items is most easily accomplished by clicking the ‘select all’ box twice:

      2. Double check no grade items are selected/checked
9. Click ‘export to excel’:
   1. 
10. Open the Excel file. You can now easily copy all email addresses to paste in the GitHub classroom ‘add students to your roster’ step.
