If your last name has changed or you need to update your primary email address to reflect your current affiliation with St. Cloud State University (SCSU), follow the steps below based on your role. This guide also explains how to set your default institution and FROM: address in Office 365.
Instructions
๐ฉ๐ Students
Step 1: Submit a Legal Name Change
- Contact Records and Registration to initiate a legal name change.
Step 2: Request an Email Address Update
- Contact HuskyTech to request an email address change.
- Wait for confirmation that the change has been completed.
Step 3: Update Your Primary Email Address
- Go to starid.minnstate.edu/selfservice
- Sign in with your StarID and password.
- Click the Office 365 Contact tab.
- Scroll to the bottom and click Select New Student Contact Card.
- Choose your SCSU email address:

- This will update your email in the Global Address Book and set your default FROM: address.
๐ฉ๐ผ Employees (Faculty, Staff, Emeriti)
Step 1: Submit a Legal Name Change
- Visit the Human Resources website.
- Click Ask HR
- Select Current Employee Questions
- Choose Other HR Questions
- Click Get Help / Ask HR on the right
- Fill out the Service Request Form to request a legal name change.
Step 2: Alias Creation
- After your request is processed, HR will run a script to automatically search for and create any possible alias using your new name.
Step 3: Update Your Primary Email Address
- Go to starid.minnstate.edu/selfservice
- Sign in with your StarID and password.
- Click the Office 365 Contact tab.
- Scroll to the bottom and click Select New Employee Contact Card.
- Choose your SCSU email address:

- This will update your email in the Global Address Book and set your default FROM: address.

If your primary email is already:
- Employees/Emeriti:

- Students:

You do not need to make any changes.

Multiple Affiliations
If you're affiliated with more than one Minnesota State institution:
- Student email:
StarID@go.minnstate.edu
- Employee email:
StarID@minnstate.edu
You must choose one to be your primary.

- Multiple student affiliations share one mailbox accessed via

Update Time
It may take 4–24 hours for the change to reflect in the Global Address List. You’ll then see your updated email when searching your name in Outlook.

Post-Update Access
After selecting a new primary email, wait one hour before restoring your Outlook application. During this time, you can access email via https://office.com.
