Federal Income Tax Information for Financial Aid

Summary

Including income and tax information on your FAFSA.

Body

Introduction

The FAFSA requires students and their contributors (parents or spouse) to provide their federal tax information in order to determine financial aid eligibility.

Question

How do I include my income tax information on my FAFSA?

Answer

Students and their contributors (parents or spouse) are required to provide consent and approval via the FAFSA form to have their tax information retrieved from the IRS. If consent and approval is not provided by the student and their contributors, the student will not be eligible for financial aid. Students and their contributors must provide consent and approval even if they did not file a U.S. tax return or any tax return at all.
