ITS Internal; Get customer signed into their cloud connected (Entra) computer

Summary

ITS focused instructions for EntraID-enabled computers running Windows 11

Body

Introduction

ITS is working with the campus to migrate to EntraID-enabled computers. We need to be consistent with getting people configured on cloud-connected devices. When you are getting people signed into a cloud connected (Entra) device, please go through these steps:

  1. When you deliver the laptop, give the customer a copy of “Getting Started on a cloud connected device" so they can go through the initial steps.
  2. Help them sign into Company Portal and select the organization "SCSU".
  3. Install Chrome and FireFox
  4. Help them sign into the Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, Office.com, Zoom, and the knowledgebase.
  5. Demonstrate how to search for the KB article Instructions for Cloud connected (Entra) computers.
  6. Connect to HuskyNet Secure and mention that they will need to forget and recreate the connection after they change their starID password.
  7. Ask if they need help importing their bookmarks.
  8. If they will be using a network printer, assist with the initial configuration. We currently only have 4 printers configured for campus.
  9. Ask about their data. If they need a Teams’s channel synched, please demonstrate. If they are still using FileSpace, please migrate them to OneDrive.
  10. If you know they need to install software and you cannot install it for them, please install Admin By Request. Demonstrate how to make the request and advise them of best practices. Tell the customer to enter their full name in the field that asks for their phone number and to include a meaningful description in the "Reason" field.

Customers may find it helpful if you include an explanation like this to describe when to use each type of username for this device.

“This computer is not joined to the stcloudstate domain. When we want to connect to HuskyNet Secure, a campus printer, or a domain-joined server, we need to specify which domain we are trying to connect to. For connection to St Cloud State services, use the format stcloudstate\StarID.

When you sign into Microsoft applications like Outlook and Teams, sign in using StarID@minnstate.edu."
