Question
I am signed into the computer. What should I do now?
Answer
After you sign into your email, you may want to install software. Click on the start menu and open the Company Portal, which replaced Software Center. Software that has been packaged and licensed to use on state-owned computers should be installed using the Company Portal. This is available on or off campus. Administrator credentials are not required.
- In the Search menu, type Company Portal, then hit Enter to open the application.
- The first time you open Company Portal, choose the category "SCSU"
- Click on Apps
- Search for specific software by title or click Apps to view all titles available.
- Click the software title, then click the button to install.

Search for and install applications you may want to install, including:
- Google Chrome, Mozilla FireFox
- ISRS
- Adobe Creative Cloud with Adobe Acrobat
- The Adobe installation may take 30 minutes or more, and it will slow down your computer.
- NOTE: ** All Microsoft Office applications must be closed before installing Adobe Creative Cloud, or the installation will fail (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
Question
How do I install software that has not been added to the Company Portal? Can I be an administrator on my computer?
Answer
Software listed in the Company Portal can be installed without administrator permission. Please work with your technician if there is software that is not available via the Company Portal that needs to be installed. Employees will not have full-time administrator access to their state-owned computer. If there is a business need, we do have a solution to provide an employee with a 25-minute window to be an administrator (See AdminByRequest below).
AdminByRequest: Users can request a 25-minute admin session in which their user account will be granted administrator access to perform tasks requiring elevated rights. Admin By Request will prompt the end user to enter their email and a justification/reason* as to why they need the approval. Approved requests are logged.
** Before Requesting elevated permissions to install software please check SCSU’s Company Portal (Start Menu – Company Portal) to see if the software is available in the portal.
|
*The Reason field in the Admin By Request 25-minute admin session prompt must have a full description of the justification given for requesting administrator access. Non-descriptive words/statements such as "Work", "installation", "need to install", etc., are not adequate and request will be denied.
|
Admin By Request – Administrator Session
1. Click the Request administrator access icon
(green/white circle with a check) in the System Tray of the taskbar, then click Request administrator access. Alternatively, launch the Admin By Request application from the start menu.
2. ABR will display a prompt to enter details about the attempt. Enter your email address and a detailed reason for requesting access. (The reason MUST be detailed enough to adequately describe the request for security logging purposes.) Click OK/Continue, then click OK at the Code of Conduct prompt.
3. ABR will grant the current user account elevated permissions and will display a countdown timer for 25-minutes. Once the timer runs out, ABR will restore standard "user" level access. Once you're done with whatever tasks you needed administrator access for, select Finish, then click Yes at the prompt:
