Connecting Chromecast to SCSU Gadgets

Introduction

Due to how a Chromecast works and how our Wi-Fi functions, we offer limited support for Chromecasts. If you follow this guide you may be able to connect your Chromecast to the WiFi. If this doesn't work, we may be unable to resolve your issue but feel free to contact us anyway to see if the issue is related to something else.

Instructions

1. First Download the Google Cast app. You MUST use a phone or tablet to set up the Chromecast. We have had issues using a computer for the setup. Launch the Google Cast app.

5. A code should be displayed on the TV, make sure it matches the code on your phone. If it does, tap "I See The Code", if it doesn't go back to step 2 and try to find your Chromecast.

6. Next give your Chromecast a name. It's up to you if you want to enable guest mode, click on the link How Does Guest Mode Work to learn what guest mode does.

7. Now connect your Chromecast to the scsugadgets network after you have registered your MAC address using the gadgets form. Click on the link Network Device Registration to be brought to the Gadgets page and register your device. The MAC address will be listed below the "Show Password" option. Make sure to add it as a Wireless device in the gadgets form.

8. Your Chromecast will now begin connecting to SCSU gadgets. Your device may be stuck in this connecting loop but if your TV is displaying that it is connected, you can close the app. The way the network is set up at SCSU you will not have to add your device (Phone, tablet, etc.) to the gadgets list. Just make sure the Chromecast is connected to gadgets and your device is on HuskyNet Secure.

9. Launch an app that can cast to your TV (YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, etc.) and see if you get the cast option. They are all in a similar spot in each app.

10. Once you tap the cast option you will be given a choice on the device to pick, choose your device and it should connect to the Chromecast.

11. You should now be able to select a video, in this example I am using YouTube, and press play to start casting to your TV.
