Introduction
IT Services recommends that you do not sync files to your local device. Instead, work directly in the cloud using Microsoft Teams and OneDrive. This ensures:
- Real-time collaboration
- Automatic saving
- Access to the latest version of your files
Instructions
Recommended Best Practice: Work Natively in the Cloud
To open a file in its desktop application while still working in the cloud:
- Right-click the file in OneDrive or Teams.
- Or click on the three dots (More actions)
- Select “Open in app” or “Open in desktop app.”

When Syncing May Be Appropriate
There are a few scenarios where syncing files to your device may be beneficial:
-
Offline Access: If you anticipate being without internet access (e.g., traveling), you can sync specific files or folders to ensure you can work on them offline.
-
Large Files: If a file is so large that working on it in the cloud causes performance issues, syncing it locally may improve usability.
⚠️ Note: Only sync what you need. Syncing large volumes of data can slow down your device and cause version conflicts.
