How to Update Your Mac Keychain Password After Resetting Your StarID

Overview

When you reset your StarID password, your Mac may not automatically recognize the change. This is because the login keychain is still encrypted with your old password, causing a prompt when you log in.

What to Expect

After logging in with your new StarID password, you’ll see a dialog stating that the system can’t unlock the login keychain. You’ll be presented with three options:

  • Cancel – Closes the dialog but leaves the keychain locked (not recommended).
  • New – Creates a new keychain (use only if you don’t need saved items).
  • Update – Allows you to enter your old password to unlock and update the keychain (recommended).

Recommended Action

Click “Update”, then enter your previous StarID password. This will unlock the keychain and update it to use your new password. You should not see this prompt again until your next password change.
