Resetting your StarID password

Resetting Your StarID Password

Your StarID password is used to access many campus and MinnState services. If you need to reset or change it, follow the steps below.

🔐 How to Reset Your StarID Password

  1. Go to the StarID Self Service Portal.

  2. Click “Reset My Password.”

  3. Choose one of the available verification options:

    • I know my email address: Enter the email associated with your StarID.

📧 You must have access to this email—MinnState will send a verification code.

    • Security Questions: If previously set up, you’ll be prompted to answer them.
    • Verification Code: If you need a code generated, contact HuskyTech at www.stcloudstate.edu/its/huskytech for support options.
  4. Click Continue and follow the prompts.

  5. Once verified, enter and confirm your new password.

  6. Read and acknowledge the Terms and Conditions, then click “Set Password.”

⚠️ Important Notes

  • Special Characters:
Avoid placing special characters at the beginning or end of your password. Instead, use them in the middle to prevent login issues across services.

  • Forgotten or Expired Passwords:
Use the “Forgot Password” or “Expired Password” links on the StarID portal.
If you're unable to reset it through self-service, contact HuskyTech for assistance.

🖥️ Resetting Your Password On or Off Campus

Windows Devices

  • On Campus:
Recommended for the easiest password sync. No need for VPN or Direct Access.
  • Off Campus:
    • If connected via Direct Access (DA)VPN, or Office Connect:
      • Change your password.
      • Lock your computer, then unlock it using the new password.
      • ⚠️ Do not sign out or restart.
    • If not connected to campus resources:
      • Bring your device to campus and connect to the network before changing your password.

Mac Devices

  • Most off-campus Macs use local accounts, so StarID password changes only affect services like O365OneDrive, etc.
  • If your Mac uses StarID for login:
    • You must bring it to campus and connect to the network before changing your password.
