August 2024:
In the continued effort of classroom modernization and improved campus space efficiency, ITS has replaced, reduced or removed many unsupportable computers and audio/video equipment, leveraging equipment from classroom closures and consolidations where possible. Most old and unusable laptop connection cables have been removed or updated to the newer HDMI connections. Because of these changes, several classrooms have been converted to laptop-dependent classrooms, with no presenter computer at the instructor’s station. If you want to use the in-room projector or display in these classrooms, you will need to bring a laptop.
What action should faculty teaching in these classrooms take?
- Verify which room(s) you are scheduled to teach in and review technology listed under Features for the room in EMS Scheduling Services. Review if the room is listed as having a Presenter Computer, or is Laptop Only (HDMI) and will require you to bring a laptop to project or display content.
- If you do not currently have a laptop and would like to borrow one, contact your technician or HuskyTech. If you currently have a University-issued laptop that you use for "office" use, this is the laptop you should use in the classroom.
- Before your first class(es), test the technology in each room you will be teaching in.
Where can faculty get help?
- Instructions for connecting your laptop in a laptop-dependent classroom are available in the Knowledge Base.
- For questions about this message or for classroom technology help, reach out to your technician or the e-classroom support team.
- To request a guided walkthrough of your classroom(s), submit a request online.
- Contact an Administrative Director for additional assistance, such as requesting a classroom change, if needed.
