How to Prepare to Offer Classes in the Event of a Closure

Question

How can I prepare to offer classes in the event of a closure?

Answer

We highly recommend accessing and utilizing the resources we have to serve students from remote locations by providing access to your courses through the D2L Brightspace learning management system.  In anticipation of this, we have developed a D2L shell for all courses being offered in Spring Semester.

For those of you less familiar with D2L we have developed a webpage to guide you in facilitating your courses remotely: https://www.stcloudstate.edu/provost/faculty-resources/remote-classes.aspx. Included at the site is access to Zoom to allow synchronous course engagement.

In addition to the tutorials provided in the website, we have learning technology and course design experts available to assist you and your students: https://www.stcloudstate.edu/online/contact.aspx.

The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning has also developed a page with resources for moving classes online

Request support for the use of teaching and learning technology and sound pedagogical principles to design in-person, online and hybrid courses.
Request a blank course shell for a group, training or other need. Courses in ISRS with an assigned instruction will automatically have a D2L course shell created for that course and do not need a request.
Schedule a walk-through of the equipment with one of our Media Service technicians before your class or event to ensure you are comfortable with the technology that is offered in the room.
