Calculating Total Hours on Your Work Authorization

Introduction

Calculate number of hours per week (hpw) you can work under your work authorization

Question

How many hours is my work authorization?

Answer

Your work award amount and number of hours per week (hpw) are listed on your work authorization. A work award of $1650 per semester at $10.08/hour is approximately 10-12 hpw. If your hourly pay rate is higher than $10.08 and your work award is $1650 per semester, you will work fewer hpw.

To calculate the number of hpw you may work:

  1. Take your work award amount and divide it by your pay rate. Example: $1650 ÷ $10.08 = 163 total hours.
  2. Divide the total hours by the number of weeks you plan to work. Example: 163 total hours ÷ 15 weeks = 10.9 hpw

REMEMBER: You may not work more than 20 hpw during periods of enrollment. Review the Student Employment Handbook for additional information.
