HuskyPrint for Students: Point Allotment & Limits

Summary

Information about HuskyPrint point allotments, limits, rates and more

Body

Introduction

St. Cloud State University introduced a new HuskyPrint solution in August 2025 to enhance student printing efficiency. Students can now upload documents via a web portal and release them using a mobile app at any HuskyPrint printer. The system uses a point-based balance instead of dollars to manage printing usage.

Each student receives 1,000 points per semester:

  • 900 points appear in the account.
  • An additional 100 points are available as a buffer before printing is disabled.

This allotment is intended to support academic printing needs.

Information

Point Deduction System

Points are deducted based on page size, color, and duplex settings:

Page Size Monochrome (B&W) Color Monochrome Duplex (per side) Color Duplex (per side)
Small (e.g., 8.5x11") 4 points 25 points 4 points 25 points
Large (e.g., 11x17") 4 points 50 points 4 points 50 points
Default 4 points 25 points 4 points 25 points

Students can preview the cost of a print job in the web portal or mobile app before releasing it.

Allotment Reset Schedule

  • Points reset approximately one week before each semester.
  • Unused points do not carry over and are non-refundable.

Handling Printing Errors

As of Fall 2025:

  • The 1,000-point allotment includes a buffer for printing errors (e.g., jams, misprints).
  • Refunds are no longer issued for such errors.

Printing Limitations

  • Insufficient Balance: If a print job exceeds the remaining balance, it will not print. A warning will be shown when nearing the limit.
  • Exceeding Allotment: Students may request additional points. Extra usage is billed at:
    • 1 point = $0.01, plus applicable taxes.
    • Charges are applied via e-Services at semester end.
  • Account Sharing: Printing accounts are non-transferable. Points cannot be shared or transferred between students.
