Can I upload work data to get help from an AI service?

Question

Can I upload work data to get help from an AI service?

Answer

The type of information, files or data that you are using determines if you can upload it into an AI service.

At St. Cloud State University, only publicly accessible data may be uploaded into AI services. Most files at SCSU would not be considered public information, therefore, employees should verify anything they would consider uploading to an AI service.

Data such as ideas or questions (prompts) related to work-tasks such as generating a list, brainstorming a draft communication or creating a draft set of topics for a presentation would be allowable as long as there is no sensitive information.

Many AI services’ terms and conditions state that you grant them full and perpetual rights to modify, display, create derivative works from and distribute your content publicly. Therefore, be careful about the information you share with an AI service.

Employees are welcome to contact SCSU Online to discuss appropriate opportunities to incorporate AI into their work.
