GitHub Copilot is an AI pair programmer. You can use GitHub Copilot to get suggestions for whole lines or entire functions right inside your editor.

How do I get started using GitHub Copilot?

Answer

Step 1:Become a verified student or teacher, as GitHub Copilot is free to use for verified students and teachers. Please see GitHub Education Verification Instructions and Information to complete this step.

Step 2: Enable GitHub Copilot

  • sign in to https://github.com with your verified account.
  • in the upper right corner, click your profile icon/photo and select 'Your Copilot':
    • Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
       
    • You should see a message similar to this one:
      • Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
    • Click 'Get access to GitHub Copilot'
    • Select your preferences and click Save.
    • You'll see instructions for installing the GitHub Copilot extension for your preferred code editor.
