Information and step-by-step instructions for GitHub Education verification. This is a necessary step if you want to use GitHub Copilot within GitHub. Please see: GitHub Copilot - getting started for more information on GitHub Copilot.
How do I become verified with GitHub Education?
Navigate to Settings page of your GitHub account and add your school email address. Use your St. Cloud State email address as found using these instructions: https://services.stcloudstate.edu/TDClient/1919/Portal/KB/ArticleDet?ID=117585 The format is typically name@stcloudstate.edu (employees) or name@go.stcloudstate.edu (students):
Submit your verification request.
Only after linking your school email will you be able to submit your request.
Navigate to GitHub Education - Benefits
Choose your academic status (either 'teacher' or 'student'):
Scroll down to the form:
Enter text in the 'How do you plan to use GitHub?' box
Click 'continue'
You may be prompted with the following, note that you are still required to submit proof of academic status either way.
You will then be asked to upload a document as proof of academic status.
