Why am I receiving academic appointments for employees outside of my area?

Anyone with the “Office of the Dean” security role in Workday will receive the academic appointment task anytime it is created. The tasks are not specific to each college or school, so if it is for a new hire not in your department, you can simply disregard until the task is completed by the appropriate person at which time it should clear out of your inbox.
