Why is my timesheet showing an incorrect number of hours when I work a partial day?

Question

Why is my timesheet showing an incorrect number of hours when I work a partial day?

Answer

A common Workday timesheet error occurs when employees auto-fill their timesheet from a schedule or prior week and then work a partial day, particularly when they work the first part of their shift and then take off for the afternoon.

This is because the first block of hours on a Workday timesheet defaults to “Meal” as the “Out” reason. Whenever your time block has an out reason of “Meal,” it will always count the next shift’s hours on the same day as all hours count for the day the shift starts because you should always return after a meal break. Therefore, this will result in too many hours showing for that day.

To fix this:

1) Delete the block of regular hours that was not worked due to leave that day.

2) Update the “Out” reason on the first block of hours worked to “Out”, not “Meal.”

3) Verify that your timesheet now reflects the correct amount of hours for that day, including any regular hours worked and leave.

Note: This information applies to employees who are non-exempt and report meal breaks on their timesheet. This does not apply to IFO employees who do not submit timesheets in Workday.
