Introduction
ITS in the process of piloting a new printing solution with select departments to test printer functionality, systems compatibility and user experience.
If you are involved in the HuskyPrint (Pharos Cloud) Pilot and have already completed the setup process, please use the instructions below get started with HuskyPrint printing.
The instructions below are intended only for those who are actively participating in the HuskyPrint pilot. At this time, most faculty and staff should continue using general printing instructions, and may contact HuskyTech for further assistance.
Instructions
To complete a print job, individuals will need to both send and release the print job. The preferred method of releasing jobs is "secure print", which includes an individual releasing the print job when they get to the printer, rather than having the printer print the document immediately. The instructions below will primarily focus on using secure print, however, other print method instructions are further below for those who need them.
Sending a job to HuskyPrint Secure:
- Sending a job using the print function in an app, browser, etc.:
- When you initiate a print job (e.g. Word document, PDF file, etc.), HuskyPrint Secure should appear as one of your printer options through your University-issued device as long as you completed the proper setup process. If you have setup your computer properly, you should be able to print from any app, browser, etc. that allows printing, then select "HuskyPrint Secure" as the printer you want to use.
- Notes:
- If you were one of the earliest adopters, your printer may appear with the name Pharos Secure Print instead of HuskyPrint Secure.
- Any finishing options should be finalized when you submit the print job through the app, browser, etc. For example, if you are printing a Word document, be sure to finalize color preferences, number of copies, etc. on Word's Print menu prior to submitting the print job for printing.
- Some specialized finishing options, such as stapling, are not available through HuskyPrint Secure.
- Sending a job by uploading to the user web portal:
- Pilot participants can also upload the document into the web portal. To begin uploading a document into the web portal, select "Upload".
- Once you select "Upload", a new window should appear that will allow you to modify the finishing options including the number of copies, color preference, and duplex preferences.
- Once you have uploaded your documents and selected finishing option preferences, you can click "Submit" and your print job will be ready to be released at a HuskyPrint pilot printer.
Releasing a HuskyPrint Secure job at a HuskyPrint Pilot Printer
**You will need the Pharos Secure Release mobile app to release your print job**
- Once you have sent a print job using the instructions above, head to any HuskyPrint pilot printer to release your print job, which are currently the printers in MC 118, 204 and 220.
- When you get to the printer, open the Pharos Secure Release app on your mobile device.
- To print all active print jobs you've sent to HuskyPrint Secure, select "Print All". A QR code scanner will appear. Use the QR code scanner to scan the QR code at the printer, which should begin releasing your print jobs. It may take about 10 seconds for your print jobs to start.
- To select specific print jobs to print, select "Review Print Jobs". It will open a list of print jobs you have sent to HuskyPrint Secure. Select the jobs you wish to print, then select "Print" in the lower right-hand corner. A QR code scanner will appear. Use the QR code scanner to scan the QR code at the printer, which should begin releasing your print jobs. It may take about 10 seconds for your print jobs to start.
- Once your print jobs are released/printed, they will disappear from your list of active print jobs.
Other instructions for using HuskyPrint (Pharos Cloud)
- Direct Print:
- Direct printing is less secure as it releases the print job automatically, rather than waiting for the appropriate individual to release it at the printer. However, in some cases, such as needing specialized finishing options like staples, it may be necessary due to functional limitations with HuskyPrint Secure printing. Please note that the printer itself must also support the finishing capabilities (e.g. if you print a job requiring staples, the printer hardware must be capable of stapling or it will print without staples.)
- If you need to release a job using direct print, you can do so using your university-issued device. To do this, initiate a print job (e.g. Word document, PDF file, etc.), and select the printer you want to use. Currently, the available direct printers for this pilot include: MC118MFP, MC204MFP and MC220MFP.
- Note: Any finishing options should be finalized when you submit the print job through the app, browser, etc. For example, if you are printing a Word document, be sure to finalize color preferences, number of copies, etc. on Word's Print menu prior to submitting the print job for printing.
- Secure Release Print Using Passcode:
- If you are unable to use a mobile device to release a print job, you can release it at a printer that offers secure release with a passcode. Currently, there is one HuskyPrint Pilot machine equipped to do this, the MC118 HP Embedded Test printer. To release a job at this printer, first refer to the most recent passcode email received from Pharos (email should be from Pharos Cloud <no-reply@beacon.pharos.com>) and ensure you will have access to that code at the printer (treat it like a password.) If you need a new passcode, follow the passcode instructions below. Once you have your passcode, go to the the MC118 HP Embedded Test printer, sign-in with your SCSU email address and enter your passcode in when prompted. You can select "Print All" to print all release jobs currently being held, or select "Review Jobs" to select specific jobs you want to print.
- Delegate Print:
- Delegate Print enables users to release print documents on behalf of someone else. This is another option that can be used if an individual is unable to print from a mobile device, as they can enable another individual to print a document on their behalf.
- To delegate a print job, first send your print job to HuskyPrint Secure using the first set of instructions in the Knowledge Base article. Once the document to be delegated has been sent to the HuskyPrint Secure queue, it will be available for delegation in your desktop app on your University-issued device.
- To delegate, open the desktop application on your University-issued device, select the document you want to delegate, and then the "Delegate" option will become available; select "Delegate".
- Enter the email address of the individual you want to delegate the print job to and then select "Add".
- Note: The delegate must have an active account in the Pharos Cloud system or you will not be able to add them or delegate a print job to that email address.
- Once the individual is added, select their email address and then select "Save".
- Once delegated, the print job will appear in both the originator's account and the delegate's account. The originator will be able to see who the print job has been delegated to. Once the print job has been released, it will disappear from both accounts.
- Resetting Passcode:
- To reset your passcode, sign into the user portal, click on the hamburger menu, then select "Passcode".
- Select "Reset Passcode" and you should receive an email to your SCSU email address from Pharos Cloud <no-reply@beacon.pharos.com> with your new passcode.
