Faculty/Staff Printing: HuskyPrint (Pharos Cloud) Setup Instructions for Pilot Participants

Introduction

ITS in the process of piloting a new printing solution with select departments to test printer functionality, systems compatibility and user experience. 

If you are involved in the HuskyPrint (Pharos Cloud) Pilot, please use the instructions below to get setup to begin using HuskyPrint. Once you have completed your setups, check out the Using HuskyPrint Knowledge Base article. 

The instructions below are intended only for those who are actively participating in the HuskyPrint pilot. At this time, most faculty and staff should continue using general printing instructions, and may contact HuskyTech for further assistance. 

Instructions

HuskyPrint Pilot participants should send a print job to HuskyPrint printers through the web portal or the desktop application on their University-issued device (#1 and #2 below). To release print jobs, you should have and use the Pharos Secure Release mobile app (#3 below). Accordingly, pilot participants are encouraged to setup all of these printing options and in the order they are listed (you must log into the web portal before using a desktop or mobile app to ensure your profile gets setup correctly.)

1. Pharos Web Portal

1. Navigate to SCSU's Pharos web portal: https://user-portal.beacon.pharos.com/HUSKYPRINT

2. Click on "Sign in to continue" on the portal's home page

3. The system may automatically log you in if you are already logged into other Minnesota State/SCSU services that leverage your Minnesota State StarID credentials, or you may be directed to sign in through Microsoft - if you are prompted to sign in, complete the login process using your StarID@minnstate.edu credentials and follow the multi-factor authentication prompts

4. Once you are logged into the user web portal, you can begin using it and are encouraged to bookmark the web portal link

 

2. Pharos desktop application on a University-owned device

**Be sure you have logged into the web portal prior to installing the desktop application (see step 1)**

Instructions for University-owned Windows computers:

1. Navigate to the Company Portal desktop app on your University-owned Windows computer

2. When prompted for your Minnesota State affiliation, select "SCSU" and then click "Done"

3. Find and click on the SCSU-Pharos Print Scout app within the Company Portal

4. Click on "Install"

5. Once installed, find and click on the Pharos Print app

6. You should be greeted with a "Welcome to Pharos Print" message with a login prompt; click on "Login to continue"

7. You should be redirected to a Minnesota State login page requesting permissions, select "Accept" and then you should automatically get a notice that says "Authenticated successfully", and you may close that browser tab

8. Navigate back to the Pharos Print app and you should see a six-digit passcode appear (which will also be emailed to you), select "Continue"

(Please note your passcode should be treated like a password)

9. Once you select continue, the window will disappear and you will need to re-launch the SCSU-Pharos Print Scout app

10. Once you are back in the app, navigate to the hamburger button and select "Workstation Location"

11. If the app detects any nearby printers, you will be able to select one from the "Auto-detect" list; if not, click on the drop-down menu (automatically set to "Auto-detect") and change it to "Manually Set"

12. A new window will appear that will allow to you select a list of available printers, click on your preferred printer (should highlight in yellow once clicked) and then click "Select" and then select "Save" on the next popup

13. Once you have completed the above steps, you are ready to use the desktop app and you may want to pin it to your task bar if you expect to use it frequently

 

Instructions for University-owned Mac computers:

1. Navigate to the SCSU Self Service desktop app on your University-owned Mac computer

2. Find and click on the SCSU Pharos Secure Print Installer within SCSU Self Service

3. Click on "Install" then the installation should begin (may take a few minutes)

4. Once installed, select the small printer icon on the menu bar at the top of your screen, then select "Show Main Window"

5. You should be greeted with a "Welcome to Pharos Print" message with a login prompt; click on "Login to continue"

6. You should be redirected to a Minnesota State login page requesting permissions, select "Accept" and then you should get a notice that you were authenticated successfully, then you may close that browser tab

7. Click on the small printer icon on the menu bar at the top of your screen, then select "Set Workstation Location"

8. If the app detects any nearby printers, you will be able to select one from the "Auto-detect" list; if not, click on the drop-down menu (automatically set to "Auto-detect") and change it to "Manually Set"

9. A new window will appear that will allow to you select a list of available printers, click on your preferred printer (should highlight in yellow once clicked) and then click "Select" and then select "Save" on the next popup

10. Once you have completed the above steps, you are ready to use the desktop app!

 

3. Pharos Secure Release mobile app

**Be sure you have logged into the web portal prior to installing the mobile application (see step 1)**

Instructions for Android devices:

1. On your Android device, navigate to the Google Play store

2. Find the Pharos Secure Release app (QR code and logo below) and select "Install"

Note: You may see a Pharos Print app appear in Google Play which is not the correct app, be sure to get the Pharos Secure Release app

3. Once downloaded, click on the app and enter in your SCSU employee email address (e.g. firstname.lastname@stcloudstate.edu) and select "Sign In"

4. You will be brought to a Microsoft 365 login page where you will need to enter in your StarID@minnstate.edu credentials (not your SCSU email address) and navigate the multi-factor authentication process

5. Once you complete the above step, the app will register your device and then automatically bring you to the app homepage

6. You should be prompted with an option to print a test page, proceed with printing a test page and you will be prompted to enter in a username and password

Username: SCSU employee email address (e.g. firstname.lastname@stcloudstate.edu)

Password: Most recent passcode from Pharos Cloud emailed to you

7. Once you have successfully logged in, the login window will disappear and you should also see a "Test successful!" message on the screen, and you are now ready to use the app!

Instructions for iPhone devices:

1. On your iPhone, navigate to the App Store

2. Find the Pharos Secure Release app (QR code and logo below) and select "Get"

Note: You may see a Pharos Print app appear in the App Store which is not the correct app, be sure to get the Pharos Secure Release app

3. Once downloaded, click on the app and enter in your SCSU employee email address (e.g. firstname.lastname@stcloudstate.edu) and select "Sign In"

4. You will be brought to a Microsoft 365 login page where you will need to enter in your StarID@minnstate.edu credentials (not your SCSU email address) and navigate the multi-factor authentication process

5. Once you complete the above step, the app will register your device and then automatically bring you to the app homepage

6. At the bottom of the page, look for "Review the one time setup instructions" and click on the "one time setup instructions" wording

7. You will be brought to a page titled "Configure Printing with Mobile" followed by a prompt to allow the website to download a configuration profile, choose "Allow"

8. You will get a notice when the profile has been downloaded, select "Close"

9. Navigate to your iPhone settings menu and you should see a new section titled "Profile Downloaded", click "Profile Downloaded" and then click on "View Profile"

10. A "Secure Printer" profile will populate, select "Install", enter in your iPhone passcode when prompted, then select "Install" once prompted again

11. Select "Done"

12. Navigate back to the Pharos Secure Release app, if the Configuring Profile with Mobile instructions are still there, select "Done"

13. You should be prompted with an option to print a test page, proceed with printing a test page and you will be prompted to enter in a username and password

  1. Username: SCSU employee email address (e.g. firstname.lastname@stcloudstate.edu)
  2. Password: Most recent passcode from received Pharos Cloud (it will be in your SCSU employee email)

14. Once you have successfully logged in, the login window will disappear and you should also see a "Test successful!" message on the screen, and you are now ready to use the app!
