Student Printing Point Allotment & Limits

Introduction

With SCSU's printing service, your printing is managed using a points (or credit) system. Each print job costs a certain number of points based on factors like the number of pages, color vs. black-and-white, and single- or double-sided printing.

When you send a document to print, it is held in your print queue until you release it at a printer. As you print, points are automatically deducted from your balance. You can usually check your remaining points through the Pharos Cloud portal or the Pharos Cloud Secure Release mobile app.

Using monochrome (black-and-white) is highly recommended, and can help you save points and make the most of your printing allowance.

This allotment is intended to support academic printing needs.

Allotment Reset Schedule

  • Points reset approximately one week before each semester.
  • Unused points do not carry over and are non-refundable.

Printing Errors

  • To reduce printing errors, please ensure you are printing a non-fillable/non-editable PDF and have selected the proper finishing options (e.g. monochrome instead of color to save points.)
  • Students who experience printing errors are encouraged to report the issue to HuskyTech.
  • The point allotment includes a buffer for printing errors (e.g., jams, misprints).
  • Point refunds are generally not issued for such errors.

Printing Limitations

  • Insufficient Balance: If a print job exceeds the remaining balance, it will not print. A warning will be shown when nearing the limit.
  • Exceeding Allotment: Students may request additional points. Extra usage is billed at:
    • 1 point = $0.01, plus applicable taxes.
    • Charges are applied via e-Services at semester end.
  • Account Sharing: Printing accounts are non-transferable. Points cannot be shared or transferred between students.
