Introduction
Starting on May 13, 2026, Pharos Cloud will be the sole print management software solution for SCSU’s networked printers. All faculty and staff, including student employees, should begin using Pharos Cloud for their printing needs if they have not already done so.
This change is necessary as the legacy print software is not compatible with Entra ID, St. Cloud State’s primary cloud-based identity and access management service. Pharos Cloud is fully compatible with Entra ID, ensuring a more secure and modern printing environment.

Getting started with Pharos Cloud print software
We encourage the use of Pharos Cloud’s Secure Print feature, which enhances both security and convenience. With Secure Print, print jobs are sent to a secure, cloud-based queue and are held until you release them at the printer by scanning a QR code with a mobile app or entering a passcode on a printer’s touchscreen.
Many printers require the use of a mobile app to securely release print jobs. A passcode-based release option (which does not require the mobile app) is available at two locations: AMC 124 and MC 125. Because passcode release is currently limited, direct print (immediate release) queues will remain available for the next several weeks. If you use a University issued device, you can set up direct printing through the Pharos Print desktop app.
Later this summer, we expect to replace the current printer fleet with a smaller set of multifunction printers that support both mobile app and passcode-based release, enabling a campuswide transition to Secure Print. Trying Secure Print now helps familiarize you with the printing experience coming later this year.
Detailed instructions on setting up and using Pharos Cloud are available in SCSU’s Knowledge Base.
Action recommended: Remove SCSU Print queues
Once SCSU Print queues are discontinued, those queues will no longer function on your device. While you may still be able to send a print job to an SCSU Print queue, the job will not print and will instead remain stuck in an inactive queue.
To avoid confusion and potential printing issues, we recommend manually removing legacy software print queues from your device. Legacy software print queues are printers that appear in printer lists but are tied to services that are no longer active or will be decommissioned soon, such as temporary Entra Print queues and SCSUPrint/SCSUPrint2.
How to tell the difference between Pharos Cloud queues and legacy print queues:
- Pharos Cloud queues (keep these):
- Secure Release: HuskyPrint Secure
- Direct Print: Queue names generally begin with “DP_”
- Legacy queues (remove these):
- Queue names generally begin with a building and room number
The graphic below shows a printer list from a Windows device with examples of printer queues that should be kept (green check mark), and a printer queue recommended to be removed (red “x”.)

Instructions for removing print queues can be found in the Knowledge Base.
Supplemental accounts will lose printing functionality
As part of this change, printing from supplemental accounts will be discontinued. If you currently use supplemental accounts for printing and have not met with IT to address your needs, please contact the project team at informationtechnology@stcloudstate.edu promptly so we can work with you to ensure a smooth transition. This change will not impact the use of supplemental accounts other than discontinuing their ability to print.
