How to Install Office 365


St. Cloud State University offers Microsoft Office FREE to all current faculty, staff, and students for personal use because of our licensing agreement with Microsoft. You can install Office on up to 5 PCs or Macs, 5 tablets, and 5 smartphones. PLEASE NOTE: Do NOT install this version on University-owned equipment. If you need Office on your University-owned equipment, please contact your technician or HuskyTech.


In order to download your free PERSONAL USE copy of Microsoft Office:

1. Please visit:

2. Login with your Office 365 login and your StarID password.



3. After logging in, click the INSTALL OFFICE button to download and install Microsoft Office.

  • Select Office 365 apps
  • Check the downloads tab and click the office download to start the install.

4. Follow the instructions that will appear on your screen to complete the installation. You should just have to start the installation, maybe hit "Next" or "Install", then everything should install in the background or on its own.

5. For Macs and mobile devices: At the end of the installation, you may be prompted to activate your copy of Office.  If so, choose the option "Sign in to an existing Office 365 subscription" and enter your SCSU StarID address and StarID password again.


You can manage the personal devices associated with your account by clicking the same "Install Office" option and selecting "Other install options." Be sure to remove computers that you no longer use Office on.
