HuskyPrint for Students: Point Allotment & Limits

Introduction

St. Cloud State University is transitioning to a new student printing service, which will become the primary print service beginning August 12, 2025. The new system uses a point-based printing allotment, where students receive a set number of points each semester. Points are deducted based on the type of print job. Read below for detailed information about the points system, rates and more.

Answer

Overview
Each student receives a printing allotment of 1,000 points at the start of each semester. This allotment is designed to support academic printing needs and is managed through a point-based system where each print job deducts points based on its characteristics.

Point Deduction System
Points are deducted according to the size, color and duplex settings of the print job. The current per-page rates (in points) are as follows:

Page Size Monochrome (B&W) Color Monochrome Duplex (per side) Color Duplex (per side)
Small (e.g., 8.5x11") 4 25 4 25
Large (e.g., 11x17") 4 50 4 50
Default 4 25 4 25
Students can preview the cost of a print job before releasing it by checking the web user portal or mobile app after uploading the document.

Allotment Reset Schedule
Printing points are reset approximately one week before the start of each semester. The balance does not carry over, and unused points are not refundable.

Handling Printing Errors
As of Fall Semester 2025, the student printing allotment was increased to accommodate occasional printing issues such as jams or misprints. Refunds for printing errors are no longer provided, as the expanded allotment is intended to cover such incidents.

Printing Limitations
•    Insufficient Balance: If a document exceeds the remaining point balance, it will not be printed. Students will receive a warning when nearing their limit.
•    Exceeding Allotment: Students may request a point limit reset and purchase additional points at the rate of 1 point = $0.01, plus any applicable taxes, to be billed at the end of the semester.
•    Account Sharing: Printing accounts are non-transferable. Students may not share or transfer points between accounts.
